Fundraising leading up to the Sept. 1 special election in the 10th Congressional District has topped $2 million, according to new federal reports filed Thursday.
Democratic candidate and Lt. Gov. John Garamendi of Walnut Grove leads the pack.
He has raised $517,368 since he launched his campaign and $216,655 in the last federal campaign finance reporting period between July 1 and Aug. 12.

Although a majority of Vacaville residents aren't in the district to vote in the election on Sept. 1, 10 of the 14 candidates for the 10th District Congressional seat were in town Tuesday night to debate the issues.
Hosted by the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce, 10 candidates and two people speaking on behalf of candidates took on topics surrounding health care, illegal immigration and energy.
The event was also captured by local television stations in both Vacaville and Fairfield.

Sponsored by the Solano County Democratic Central Committee, the candidates gathered at the Solano County Government Center for a light-hearted and often times raucous forum in Fairfield.
The primary election to replace Ellen Tauscher will take place Sept. 1.

The Solano County Democratic Central Committee is hosting a debate among the Democrats running in the upcoming special election for the 10th Congressional District.
The seat was left open with the recent U.S. Senate confirmation of Congressmember Ellen Tauscher to the position of Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security in the U.S. State Department.
